If you are thinking about trying EFT for the first time, you may wonder what actually happens during a session. Will you need to talk a lot? Will you do the tapping yourself? Do you need to know the technique beforehand?
EFT, also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques or tapping, is a gentle emotional release practice. Through soft tapping with the fingers on specific points of the body, while focusing on an emotion, thought or difficulty, space can open for more calm, acceptance and inner awareness.
At Inner Glow, each EFT session is adapted to what you need in the present moment, with respect for your pace and boundaries.
1. We Begin With a Short Conversation
The session usually begins with a calm conversation. You can share what is present for you, how you feel or what you would like to work on. You do not need to have clear answers, and you do not need to explain everything in detail.
Sometimes, it is enough to begin with something simple, such as “I feel tension”, “I feel anxious”, “I do not know what feels heavy” or “I want to feel calmer”.
2. We Identify the Emotion or Theme
Then, we create space to recognise what feels most alive within you in that moment. It may be an emotion, a thought, a physical sensation or a repeated pattern.
If your theme is connected to emotional tension, you may also read EFT and Anxiety: A Gentle Technique for Emotional Release.
3. The Tapping Begins With Guidance
The practitioner guides you step by step through the tapping points. Usually, you gently tap on points on the face, body or hands, while repeating phrases connected to what you are feeling.
You do not need to know the technique beforehand. You do not need to do it perfectly. The process is simple and can be adapted according to what feels comfortable for you.
4. We Notice What Changes
As the session continues, you may notice that the intensity softens, that new emotions appear or that you begin to see the theme from a different perspective. Sometimes, relief may come. Other times, there may be emotion, silence or the need for a pause.
All of this can be part of the process. EFT does not push you to get somewhere quickly. It supports you in staying present with whatever arises.
5. We Close With Grounding and Care
Towards the end, there is time to gently return to your body, notice how you feel and close the session with more grounding. You may share what you observed or what you feel you need afterwards.
If it is your first time, you can also read EFT for Beginners to feel more familiar with the experience.
A Process With Space and Respect
An EFT session does not need to feel intense or difficult. It can be a gentle process of reconnecting with yourself, your body and the emotions that are asking to be heard.
If you feel that you need support to release emotional tension or understand more clearly what you are experiencing, you can book an introductory appointment or explore other practices, such as Reiki and Intuitive Harmony.
EFT sessions are complementary and do not replace medical diagnosis, medical treatment or psychotherapeutic support.
